Remarks |
Amlodipine + Atenolol
Amlodipine + Atenolol is a combination amlodipine- a calcium channel blocker and atenolol- a beta blocker.
Amlodipine + Atenolol is indicated in the following conditions-
- Patients with essential hypertension
- Patients with angina pectoris & hypertension as co-existing diseases
- ln post myocardial infarction patients
- ln patients with refractory angina pectoris where nitrate therapy has failed.
Amlodipine with Atenolol 5/25 mg tablet once daily is the suggested dosage. The dosage may be increased to 5/25 mg two tablets day if necessary, or as directed by the doctors. However, the dosage should be tailored to the individual.
- Amlodipine + Atenolol should be used with caution in patients with airway obstruction.
- Amlodipine + Atenolol therapy must not be stopped abruptly without physician's advice.
- Patients with renal impairment can benefit from the therapy. However, if the creatinine clearance is less than 30 ml/min, attention should be exercised because the excretion of unaltered Atenolol may be reduced.
- Because Amlodipine's elimination half-life is prolonged in individuals with severe liver damage, caution should be exercised when using the medication.
