Fenticonazole Nitrate

Fenticonazole is an imidazole antifungal drug, used locally as the nitrate. It is effective against a wide variety of fungi.

Fenticonazole nitrate is indicated for vulvovaginal candidiasis.

  • Fenticonazole is available as vaginal cream and vaginal tablets.
  • For adults, one applicator full (about 5 gm) is to be administered into the vagina in the morning and evening for three days.

Slight temporary burning may occur after intravaginal administration, although it normally goes away quickly.

  • It is not recommended for use with barrier contraceptives.
  • Treatment should be stopped and a physician should be consulted if a hypersensitive reaction or the development of resistant organisms occurs.
