Citric Acid
Citric acid is an anti-chelation additive that is used in blood collection tubes, as well as a flavoring and preservative agent in a variety of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. Citric acid is used along with potassium citrate to reduce the acidity of urine.
Citric acid is used as urine alkalizer.
Citric acid is administered along with potassium citrate. The usual dose is 15-30 mL per oral diluted with 1 glass of water four times a day (after meals and at bedtime).
The following side effects may occur with the use of citric acid-

- abdominal pain
- diarrhea
- vomitting
