Carbonyl Iron
Carbonyl Iron is a mineral supplement preparation. Iron is a mineral necessary for various physiological functions. It is especially needed for the synthesis of hemoglobin and various enzyme function.
Carbonyl Iron supplement is indicated for iron deficiency, specially during pregnancy.
- Adults and children over 12 years old:

- Male: 8 mg orally once daily
- Female: 18 mg orally once daily
- Pregnant female: 27 mg orally once daily
- Lactating female 9 mg orally once daily
Carbonyl iron may cause the following side effects-
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Taste disturbances (metallic taste)
- Constipation

Iron absorption is inadequate in patients who have had a gastric bypass.

Iron preparations should be used with caution in people who have had a peptic ulcer or inflammatory bowel illness, such as regional enteritis or ulcerative colitis.

Patients with intestinal strictures or diverticula should be treated with caution.
Contraindication
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.

Contraindicated in patients with Iron overload.
