Streptomycin + Sulfadiazine + Sulfadimidine + Sulfapyridine

Streptomycin + Sulfadiazine + Sulfadimidine + Sulfapyridine is a Veterinary Antibiotic Combination. Streptomycin Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to the production of nonfunctional proteins and ultimately inhibiting bacterial growth. Sulfadiazine, Sulfadimidine, and Sulfapyridine Sulfonamides act as competitive inhibitors of dihydropteroate synthase, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of folic acid in bacteria. This disruption in folate synthesis inhibits bacterial growth and replication.

This veterinary antibiotic combination is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in animals, including:

  • Respiratory infections
  • Enteric infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Wound infections
  • Other bacterial infections susceptible to the components of the combination.
  • Dosage varies based on the severity of the infection, the species of the animal, and the individual animal's weight.
  • Administered orally or via injection, depending on the formulation.
  • Administer according to the specific dosage instructions provided by the veterinarian.
  • Follow recommended dosing intervals and duration of treatment.

Adverse reactions may occur, with common to less common reactions including:

  • Gastrointestinal upset (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, itching)
  • Anemia
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Nephrotoxicity
  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Neurotoxicity
  • Photosensitivity
  • Bone marrow suppression

  • Allergic Reactions: Monitor animals for signs of allergic reactions, such as skin rash or itching, and discontinue treatment if necessary.
  • Renal and Hepatic Function: Use with caution in animals with pre-existing renal or hepatic impairment.
  • Neurotoxicity: Monitor for signs of neurotoxicity, including vestibular dysfunction or ataxia.
  • Photosensitivity: Avoid exposure to sunlight in animals experiencing photosensitivity reactions.
  • Drug Interactions: Be cautious when using concurrently with other medications known to cause renal or hepatic toxicity.

Contraindication

This veterinary antibiotic combination is contraindicated in animals with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.

This veterinary antibiotic combination is contraindicated in animals with:

  • Pre-existing renal or hepatic dysfunction.
  • History of severe adverse reactions to sulfonamide antibiotics.
