Camphor
Camphor is a powder that originated from the camphor tree's bark and wood. It is typically used topically.
Camphor is used in the following conditions-
- Cough (applied on throat)
- Insect bite
- Cold sores
- Itching
- Mild pain
There is no standard dosage for camphor. Apply a thin coat on the affected area.
Camphor use can cause the following side effects-
- skin irritation
- burning sensation
- Camphor can be fatal if swallowed, especially by children.
- Camphor poisoning is a major hazard for children.
- Camphor items should not be kept in the home by parents.
- Camphor should never be used on cuts or broken skin.
- Camphor should not be used by children or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Contraindication
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to camphor.
