Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate

Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate is an ear drop medication that contains Clioquinol, an antifungal and antibacterial agent, and Flumetasone Pivalate, a corticosteroid. Clioquinol inhibits the growth of fungi and bacteria by binding to their DNA, while Flumetasone Pivalate reduces inflammation and itching by inhibiting the production of certain chemicals in the body.

 

Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate is indicated for the treatment of otitis externa, an infection of the outer ear canal caused by fungi or bacteria.

 

The recommended dosage for Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate ear drops is usually 3-4 drops in the affected ear(s) two or three times daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Prior to application, the ear should be cleaned and dried. The drops should be warmed to body temperature by holding the bottle in the hand before application.

 

The following adverse reactions have been reported with the use of Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate ear drops:

  • Adrenal suppression
  • Burning or stinging sensation in the ear
  • Itching or irritation in the ear
  • Risk of developing Cataract 
  • Allergic reactions, including rash and swelling

 

Before using Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate ear drops, patients should be aware of the following warnings and precautions:

  • Use of this medication for prolonged periods may increase the risk of developing secondary infections or fungal infections.
  • This medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to other corticosteroids or antifungal agents.
  • This medication should not be used in patients with viral infections of the ear, including herpes simplex or varicella zoster.
  • Patients should avoid getting water in the treated ear(s) during swimming or bathing, as this may reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
  • Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate ear drops should not be used in the eyes or ingested orally.

 

Contraindication

Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate is conraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.

Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate is conraindicated in the following conditions-

  • Perforation of the tympanic membrane
  • disorders associated with therapy-resistant secondary infection
  • iodine sensitivity
  • primary bacterial, viral, or fungal infection of the outer ear.
  • Children under 2 years
