Ciprofloxacin + Hydrocortisone Acetate

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone class. It kills bacteria by inhibiting DNA synthesis. Hydrocortisone acetate is a mild corticosteroid. This drug is used to treat a range of skin problems. It reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions.

This medication is indicated for the following conditions-

  • Ocular conditions
  • Otitis media
  • Otitis externa
  • Ocular inflammation associated with infection
  • Post-operative inflammation of ear and eye
  • Corneal Ulcers
  • Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Ciprofloxacin + Hydrocortisone Acetate is available as opthalmic and otic drops. The dosage regimen can vary depending on the type of infection and severity of inflammation.

The medication can cause the following side effects-

  • Eye burning, stinging, redness
  • periocular and facial edema
  • Tearing
  • Dryness
  • Photophobia

 

  • Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms including fungi.
  • Patients who wear contact lenses should not use the drops while wearing the lenses.

Contraindication

The medication is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of the product or any antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone class, such as-

This medication is contraindicated in patients with the following conditions-

  • Herpes simplex and other viral condition
  • Mycosis
  • Glaucoma
  • Fungal diseases of ocular or auricular structures.
