Carbonyl Iron + Folic Acid

Carbonyl Iron + Folic Acid is a combination preparation of iron and folic acid. Iron is necessary for the biosynthesis of hemoglobin and folic acid plays an important role for the synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins.

Carbonyl Iron + Folic Acid is indicated for the treatment of-

  • Iron deficiency
  • Folic acid deficiency

One tablet daily with or without food or as prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider with prescribing authority.

Carbonyl Iron + Folic Acid may cause the following side effects-

  • Nausea
  • Anorexia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Dark stool
  • Patients with Iron overload conditions such as haemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red blood cell aplasia should be treated with extra caution.
  • Iron is usually prescribed when anemia is diagnosed. Failure to respond to treatment necessitates additional testing to rule out other causes of anemia.

Contraindication

Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.
