Besifloxacin
Besifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is only used as ophthalmic suspension. It kills bacteria by inhibiting DNA synthesis.
Besifloxacin is indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis caused by the following organisms-
- Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Streptococcus salivarius
- Staphylococcus epidermidis
- Staphylococcus hominis
- Moraxella lacunata
- Streptococcus mitis group
- Streptococcus oralis
The usual adult dosage is one drop 3 times a day for a period of 7 days.
How to use besifloxacin opthalmic suspension:
The commonly associated side effects of besifloxacin are as follows-
- Eyed redness
- Excessive tearing
- Headache
- Eye irritation
- Care should be taken so that this drug is not introduced directly into the anterior chamber of the eye.
- Prolonged use may cause overgrowth of resistant organisms.
- If you have indications or symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis, or if you're taking Besifloxacin, you shouldn't wear contact lenses.
