Sodium Sulfachloropyridazine

Sulfachloropyridazine sodium is a sulfonamide antibiotic that is effective against Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria, and Chlamydia in humans and animals (dogs, horses, cows, and pigs). It inhibits the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, which prevents the formation of dihydrofolic acid.

It is indicated for the treatment of

  • diarrhea caused or complicated by E. coli (colibacillosis) in calves under 1 month of age:
  • colibacillosis in swine.
  • Calves: The recommended daily dose is 30 to 45 mg of sulfachloropyridazine per lb of body weight administered in 2 divided doses for 1 to 5 days, as follows: 
  • Sulfachloropyridazine Injection– Administer intravenously 1 mL per 10 lb of body weight morning and night. It is suggested that therapy be initiated by administering Sulfachloropyridazine Injection intravenously and continuing therapy with oral administration of either Sulfachloropyridazine Boluses or Sulfachloropyridazine Powder.

Side effects include-

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Do not medicate chickens or turkeys producing eggs for human consumption.
  • Not for use in lactating dairy cattle.
  • Dispose Of Any Waste Or Unused Portion Properly.
  • Keep All Medications Out Of The Reach Of Children.

Contraindication

Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to the medicine itself or other sulphonamides such as-
