Magnesium Hydroxide
Magnesium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with basic character. It reacts with and neutralizes the excess gastric acid produced in the git. It also works as a laxative.
Magnesium hydroxide is indicated for the following conditions-
- flatulence
- heartburn/ acidity
- dyspepsia
- indigestion
- constipation
As an antacid:
- Adults and children over 12 years: One to two 5ml spoonful when required. Not suitable in children under 12 years of age.
As a laxative:
- Adults and children over 12 years: Five to ten 5ml spoonful in a glass of water at bedtime. Not suitable in children under 12 years of age.
Side effects are rare with the use of magnesium hydroxide. However, with prolonged use. hypermagnesemia can occur.
- In the aged and disabled, as well as people with compromised liver function, use with caution. Hypermagnesemia can also occur in people with compromised renal function.
- Keep all medications out of the reach of children.
- Consult your doctor if constipation persists.
- Children under the age of 12 are not advised.
- 3 months after opening, discard any unused mixture.
Contraindication
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the medication.
There's no known contraindications of the medication in terms of food and drinks.
Magnesium hydroxide is contraindicated in-
- Renal problems (severe)
- Gastrointestinal problems (acute)
